Carnations

Carnations, another leading light of the new Sydney scene. Their music is reminiscent of The Cure or even recent Bar Italia material, but skewed through a uniquely antipodean lens, the gloom belied by a slightly shambolic charm and offset by a restless, bouncy rhythm section.

‘I Die’ is lifted from their five-track cassette/EP URGE. ‘I Die’ is the EP’s lead track and is full of disordered and entrancing guitar hooks, whilst the duel female vocals give it that authentic retro feel.

Patio

Patio is a New York trio who write mellow indie rock with post punk influences. Dual vocals by Loren DiBlasi and LP McCloy meets Alice Suh's strong drumming to yield a steady, metronomic sound.

They formed when non-musician Loren DiBlasi met actual musician Lindsey-Paige McCloy, and a joke about outdoor day drinking turned into a real-life band. The duo was soon joined by Alice Suh, a college friend of McCloy's who had recently started learning drums. Instantly, the trio developed a signature sound of sparse, melodic post-punk, signing with Fire Talk Records and releasing their acclaimed debut Essentials in 2019.

They are now based in New York, Los Angeles, and Berlin, and their track Gold II is lifted from their latest album Collection; a radiant collage of shifting identities, sensory illusions, and deconstructed disco grooves

Shady Nasty

Shady Nasty are a Sydney-based trio which formed in 2015.

Their art is a dynamic experiment drawing from alternative forms of punk and hip-hop. If they had to put their sound into words (though it’s something they try to avoid) it would be an ‘experimental blend of post-punk and hip-hop’.

Truth Club

Based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, Truth Club are a four-piece band fronted by Travis Harrington, alongside drummer Elise Jaffe, guitarist/bassist Kameron Vann, and the club’s newest recruit, Yvonne Chazal, who joined on the back of their 2019 debut, Not An Exit.

Their debut LP Not An Exit was released in 2019, and their impressive set of tense, brooding post-punk tracks established them as an exciting new voice, landing them on Stereogum’s 2019 list of Best New Bands, where they were praised as “the wistful, nervy relatives of indie rock’s past and present.”

The follow-up, Running From The Chase, out October 6th on Double Double Whammy, brings a sense of curiosity, commitment, and experimentation to the band’s process

doris

Sydney/Newcastle based Doris draw inspiration from a range of influences including Alex G, Ovlov, and Black Country New Road. They bring a fresh and distinctive sound to Australia’s shoegaze, indie, and emo music scene.

Since their formation in 2020, Doris has shared the stage with notable bands such as Sesame Gurl, Pist Idiots, Dust, Shady Nasty, and Raave Tapes, captivating audiences across the East-Coast of Australia.

‘holster’ is lifted from their recent album four trees. "four trees is about learning to grow, its about accepting love into your life, its about never fearing who you were or who you will become." - doris

Wednesday

Wednesday is an American alternative rock band from Asheville, North Carolina, currently signed to Dead Oceans. Karly Hartzman, the songwriter/vocalist/guitarist at the helm of the project is a story collector as much as she is a storyteller, joined by guitarist MJ Lenderman, lap steel player Xandy Chelmis, drummer Alan Miller and bassist Ethan Baechtold.

The band's style has been described as a mixture of shoegaze and country rock, while their lyrical content has been praised for its storytelling about life in the American south. ‘Bull Believer’ is from their album Rat Saw God.
